WORSHIP BRIEFS: Pleasant Hill hosts health extravaganza and expo

Feb. 15      

Join the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Ministry of Health and Wellness from 9 a.m. until noon for a free health extravaganza and expo featuring vendors, blood pressure checks, flu shots, cooking ideas, massages and more. The health expo will be held at the JA Cuthbertson Family Life Center, 517 Baldwin Ave. Contact the church office at (704) 376-1201 for more information.

Later in the day, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church is hosting “The Heart of Truth,” a fashion show and dinner from 6-9 p.m. at Cuthbertson Family Life Center. Enjoy an evening of fashion, food and fun. Feb. 16

Grace AME Zion Church, 3722 David Cox Road, is hosting the Grace AME Zion Church annual concert at 3 p.m. featuring The Voices of Eden Gospel Choir of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The theme of the concert is "God is Love, Love is real." The event is free and open to the public. Feb. 16

The Derita Presbyterian Church Worship Center is hosting a black history celebration at 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, 2230 W. Sugar Creek Road. it will be an afternoon of worship service at 1:30 p.m. and good food. African attire is encouraged. The day’s special guests are Peter Wherry and the congregation and choir of Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church. The celebration is open to the public.

Feb. 22

The Men's Ministry of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 217 West Todd Lane, invites all men to attend their Annual Men's Health Symposium & Fair being held at the church 1:30-5 p.m. The following screenings will be provided: Lipid panels (cholesterol), A1C (diabetes screening), Ht/Wt/BMI, and blood pressure. The following doctors will be in attendance: Dr. Latimer Taylor of Metrolina Internal Medicine; Dr. Ben Ogumwale of Queen City Gastroenterology & Hepatology Clinic; Dr. Kelly-Ann McDonald of Charlotte Health Center; Dr. Robert Harley of Charlotte Eye-Ear-Nose & Throat; and Men’s Prostate Support Group. Feb. 23

In celebration of Black History Month, The Ministers Alliance of North Carolina Inc. along with area pastors and community leaders are holding a commemorative service to honor the work of Pastors Mabel Lee Hubbard, Mary Cubean and Allique Lewis and reflect on each woman’s life and public service. The event will be held at Faith Memorial Baptist Church, 211 Lakewood Ave., starting at 4 p.m. with host pastor Dennis Williams.
