In commemoration of American Heart Month, the American Heart Association has kicked off its annual “Go Red for Women” campaign, encouraging women to take better care of their hearts. Friday is National Wear Red Day. Wear the color in support of AHA’s mission to increase awareness about heart disease, the number one killer of women. Numerous landmarks in charlotte and the surrounding area will go red in support of the cause.

Check out these “Go Red” events happening around town this month:

  • Go Red for Women Executive Breakfast – an invitation-only breakfast being held Feb. 7 to introduce local business leaders to the Go Red fro Women campaign. They will also hear from heart survivors, learn about the Circle of Red Society and sponsorship opportunities for this spring’s GRFW Luncheon and Education Forum.
  • Macy’s Go Red Total Makeover Event – Stop by Macy’s in SouthPark Mall Feb. 8 between 1-3 p.m. to participate in the Passport Good Health program. Admission is free. All those who participate will be eligible to win a $250 Macy’s gift certificate. In addition, one lucky woman with a significant lifestyle change promoting her health and wellbeing will be selected from nominations collected earlier in the month for a Macy’s Go Red Total Makeover and a $500 gift certificate.
  • 56th annual Greater Charlotte Heart Ball – This long-standing tradition in the Queen City is held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Crown Ballroom and includes dinner, dancing and live and silent auctions. This year’s theme is “Conquer the Heart.” The event raises funds for education, research and advocacy to treat, beat and defeat heart disease. For tickets, visit CharlotteNCHeartBall.org.
