There is a lot to laugh about this week as Aries Spears comes to town, Kevin Hart returns to the small screen and Laugh for the Cure returns for another year. Plus, Nene Leakes is scheduled to judge which Carolina stylists rock the runway as Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative hosts its monthly series, The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door. Here’s a look at what else is happening around Charlotte:

Aries Spears at Comedy Zone 1/16

Funny man Aries Spears is bringing his comedic talents to the Charlotte Comedy Zone (900 NC Music Factory Blvd.) with performances through Jan. 19. Tickets start at $25. www.CltComedyZone.com

‘Ride Along’ 1/17

Keep the laughter going when “Ride Along” hits theaters Friday. The film stars Kevin Hart as Ben, a fast-talking security guard who joins his soon-to-be brother-in-law, a cop named James (Ice Cube) on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta. For some fun at the movies that’s a little easier on your wallet, skip opening night and go to any AMC theater to check out a weekend matinee for $5.

Laugh for the Cure 1/18

Enjoy a fun-filled night at the annual “Laugh for the Cure” annual comedy show to raise money for breast cancer research, education, screenings, diagnostic services, and treatment support for uninsured and underinsured women in our community. This year’s event will be held Saturday at Knight Theater in benefit of Komen Charlotte. Tammy Pescatelli is headlining. The night will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a silent and live auction and meet and greet with the 2014 class of Komen Pink Tie Guys. Visit KomenCharlotte.org for more information.

Roc Da Runway 1/19

Watch stylists, barbers, boutiques and performers from North and South Carolina battle it out during Roc Da Runway 2014 at Reel Works Studio, 817 Hamilton St. “Real Housewives Of Atlanta” star Nene Leakes has been announced as one of this year’s celebrity judges. Tickets start at $35 and are available at RocDaRunway.com.

Burgers & Brew 1/20

Jumpstart the workweek chowing down at Nix Burgers & Brew (201 N. Tryon St.), where Monday specials include $3 fried pickles and $2.50 domestic bottle beers. The menu boasts of close to 20 different half-pound burgers, which can be prepared with beef or turkey and veggie patties.

The Jazz Room 1/21

Join Charlotte's Jazz Arts Initiative for The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door, a monthly series that takes place on the third Tuesday of each month featuring gifted musicians from the Charlotte region recreating the music of jazz masters like Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Billie Holiday. This month, renowned tenor saxophonist Phillip Whack pays tribute to the great John Coltrane in a two-hour set beginning at 6 p.m. at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Stage Door Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 after 4 p.m. day of show.

The Wine Vault 1/22

Get over the Hump Day slump sipping wine at The Wine Vault (9009 J.M. Keynes Drive) in the University area, which hosts wine tastings every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Try six featured wines for $5.
