Arts & Science Council President Scott Provancher is leaving the nonprofit agency to launch a new fundraising strategy consulting business. His last day in office will be June 30.

“Change is never easy,” Provancher said in a statement. “However, I believe the timing is right for me to pursue my entrepreneurial interests and passion for bringing new thinking and innovation to the fundraising arena.”

Provancher joined ASC in 2009 from the Fine Arts Fund in Cincinnati, Ohio. He said the concept of his new business venture, which will be based in Charlotte and Cincinnati, is to pioneer unique fundraising approaches that connect organizations, donors and communities to achieve common goals.

ASC, which is investing more than $12.5 million in Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s cultural sector this fiscal year, has grown under Provancher’s leadership, raising funds to restore access to field trips and cultural programs for students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Initiatives have included the launch of Power2Give.org, which allows individuals to donate directly to projects they care about and the completion of the private endowment campaign that resulted in the Levine Center for the Arts.

“Scott has been a great leader for ASC, helping the organization adapt and positioning us to move forward,” ASC Board Chair Linda Lockman-Brooks said. “We will continue to build on our momentum in supporting the cultural sector and wish Scott well.”

The ACS board of directors plans to appoint an interim president July 1 and Lockman-Brooks will chair the national search for Provancher’s successor.
