September’s Democratic National Convention has a corporate partner for its media welcome party.

The Charlotte in 2012 Convention Committee announced Time Warner Cable as sponsor of the Sept. 1 bash at the North Carolina Music Factory. TWC employs more than 5,000 in Charlotte, site of the telecommunications giant’s second-largest corporate campus and has 1.7 million customers in the state.

“We are proud to partner with Time Warner Cable as the premier sponsor of this event,” said Dr. Dan Murrey, Charlotte in 2012’s executive director. “This partnership ensures that we will make the most of this incredible opportunity – an international media spotlight brought by the very people we will be welcoming here at the Music Factory.”

DNC-credentialed media will be invited to the welcome party near Uptown Charlotte. The Music Factory has 14 venues from dining to comedy clubs concert arenas, bars, and outdoor courtyards.

Advanced Media Network and Cecil & Company were awarded contracts for the party under the DNCC’s vendor directory program to promote participation among businesses owned by historically underutilized entrepreneurs. Advanced Media has been providing audio-video production services in the Charlotte area for four years.  Shelby-based Cecil & Company is owned by Cecil Partlow and provides DJ and emcee services. It has been in business for the last 20 years.

“These companies represent the high-quality, diverse business culture that is the base of our city’s economy,” said Mary Tribble, Charlotte in 2012’s deputy executive director of hospitality and events. “We look forward to partnering with them to create an event that is memorable and helps us set the stage for this historic convention.”

Top Seniors at 40:

The Post's Top Seniors program would not exist without James Cuthbertson. In 1975, Cuthbertson, then a Post reporter, asked a question: Why weren't African American students acknowledged publicly for academic and extracurricular accomplishments? The answer was to create Top Seniors, an annual list of all-star scholars celebrating its 40th class in 2014.
