Johnson C. Smith University will honor philanthropists and activists at its fifth annual Arch of Triumph Gala.

U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a pivotal figure in the 1960s civil rights movement and comic-philanthropist Sheryl Underwood will headline the gala on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Charlotte Convention Center. In addition to Lewis and Underwood, JCSU will honor alumni Eva Green Donaldson (Class of 1948), a retired educator, and Melvin T. Pinn Jr. M.D. (Class of 1970), senior medical director of Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.

The black-tie event is part of JCSU’s 146th Founders’ Week observance and helps support the JCSU Fund, which provides financial support for scholarships, teaching and learning initiatives. Since its inception, the gala has grossed nearly $877,000.
