Jacob’s Ladder Job Center executive director Holly Cummings has resigned after less than one year on the job. Her last day with the agency is Feb. 1.

It is still unclear why Cummings stepped down. She could not be reached at her office and did not return phone calls for comment.
Cummings joined JLJC in March 2012. In July, she led a fundraising campaign to raise $200,000 to keep the agency open. JLJC reported falling short of its goal by $25,000.

In September, JLJC, which provides job readiness and interview training for job hunters, announced it would merge with the Urban League Central Carolinas, a nonprofit that provides job certification, financial literacy and life skills training. The merger was initially slated to be complete this month but has been pushed back. According to JLJC board member Charles Pfeiler, no new timeline has been set.

Pfeiler said Cummings’ departure will “absolutely not” affect the merger with Urban League.

“We are very excited about moving forward with the Urban League,” he said. “This does not affect it all. We wish her the most success in her future endeavors.”

Pfeiler also said the board has not yet decided how to fill Cummings’ position or if an interim director will be appointed until the merger with ULCC is complete.

“The board of directors is meeting on that on a daily basis,” he said. “We are trying to determine that.”
