Young Black Men Leadership Alliance is celebrating Charlotte’s best and brightest role models on Oct. 13.

The leadership development program will host its Top 100 recognition ceremony at UNC Charlotte’s McKnight Auditorium at 12 p.m. Urban League of Central Carolinas CEO Patrick Graham PhD will be the featured speaker. YBMLA will acknowledge the top 100 black male high school seniors for academic, extracurricular and community achievements.

“We are so proud of our young men and want to share their stories with people who may have the opportunity to make a positive difference for them,” YBMLA founder and CEO John Martin said. “It is all about changing lives and perceptions.”

The recognition ceremony will also launch YBM’s “Top 100 Young Black Men of Charlotte” publication, which includes profiles and information on preparing and attending college. The book, which will be displayed in schools and businesses across Charlotte, is available for purchase at the recognition event and YBM. The honorees will also get a copy.

The leadership program mentors boys between the ages of 14-18 by exposing them to positive role models and lifetime learning opportunities. In exchange, the participants – many who come from single-parents homes – agree to mentor a boy in elementary school.
