Women veterans have an ally in their transition to civilian work.

The Carolinas Chapter of the National Diversity Council will host “From Boots to Suits: Empowering Female Veterans’ Transition into the Workforce” Oct. 7 at the Omni Hotel.

“Our programs are designed to facilitate dialogue amongst business leaders, professionals and community members in order to create a more inclusive workforce, which will ultimately lead to more productive work environments,” NDC founder and CEO Dennis Kennedy said.

From Boots to Suits will have tracks for women veterans and staffing and recruiting professionals. The veterans’ track is $25 but free seating is available to participants who can’t afford the registration fee. The staffing and recruiting track is $50. Both programs include light refreshments, lunch, networking, and a keynote speech from Dr. Tara Dixon as well as a gift bag.

Veterans’ track sessions will focus on empowering veterans’ transition into civilian positions, as well as access to government, nonprofit, for-profit, and academic resources. Veterans will learn secrets to success from women who have made the transition, get help in building a resume’ and learn about thriving in a corporate cultures.

The staffing and recruiting track sessions focus on empowering professionals to find, place, and support veterans as well as accessing resources. Participants will gain insight into military culture and learn methods to train veterans (focus on traditionally female roles). There will also be networking with veterans.
