Charlotte Y exec gets White House honor
Mike DeVaul 1 of 12 'Champions of Change'

President Barack Obama will honor a Charlotte YMCA executive Mike DeVaul as a champion of change.

DeVaul, senior vice president of organizational advancement at YMCA of Greater Charlotte, is one of 12 YMCA “Champions of Change” to be recognized at a June 7 White House ceremony. The ceremony will focus on the efforts of YMCA leaders and Y Partners to transform and inspire communities by addressing issues from education and child hunger to reducing obesity.


DeVaul, who has worked at the YMCA for 28 years, will be recognized for community building and diversity work in Charlotte. He has also led local support for the Charlotte Y’s global partners in Senegal, Gambia and Jerusalem as well as the Global Center of Excellence initiative to encourage greater participation at the Y.
