Registration for Library Rock and Read 5K

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library Foundation and Friends of the Library are sponsoring the annual Rock & Read 5k Run/Walk on Sept. 14. The event is held each year this volunteer-driven event raises money to support the Charlotte-Mecklenburg library system.

This year’s festivities will include a free Kid’s Zone featuring Chubby the Checker, Norm the Niner, Mrs. Ballantyne, a bounce house and literacy-based games with library staffers. There will also be a 1-mile Fun Run and Kid’s Dash. Both are at separate start times and entry fees from the 5k.

Dogs, strollers and runners of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Cash prizes will be awarded to top male and top female runners.

Runners and walkers will also enjoy music on every mile provided by Mack West Jazz Ensemble, Brian Doyle and the Hamiltons, Southend Strings and CBS Radio DJs.

Participants can enjoy Chic-fil-A biscuits, Common Market’s keg of beer, Wine Vault champagne, Farmer’s Market bananas and oranges, Pure Intentions coffee and other goodies from Harris Teeter and Bi-Lo. Flywheel, Hospitality House, Central Dentist and Women’s National Book Association will have booths onsite.

The registration fee for the 5k-Race is $25 until Sept. 13 and $30 the day of event. The 1-mile entry fee is $20 until September 13 and $25 day of event. Entry for the Kid’s Dash is $5. Sleep-in sponsorships are $20.
