Whether you are stepping out for a night on the town with the girls, a hot date with someone special or simply running errands on a Saturday morning, you want to put your best face forward.
But looking your best doesn’t mean caking on make up until you become unrecognizable, it’s all about looking yourself but only better.
“Everyone can be beautiful,” said Derek Miller, national makeup artist for Estee Lauder. “It’s about taking what’s great about everyone woman and different and enhancing it.”
Miller said it’s all about bringing out your best features. Well-applied makeup makes the difference between someone complimenting your beautiful eyes or simply noticing your eye makeup.
“I just love enhancing a woman’s natural beauty and features,” said Miller. “You can do that with fun dramatic colors, but it’s still about making your natural beauty the focus of the look.”
If you are not a make-up pro, there is no need to worry. A beautiful look can be achieved with the right technique.
A natural look is all about flawless skin, a fresh glow and lots of lashes.
The first step is to prep your skin with a primer. Next, sweep on your foundation and concealer.
When it comes to choosing a foundation, Miller said there is more to consider than finding the right color.
“Color obviously is crucial,” he said. “But finding the right formula is also key. If you have the right color but it’s not the right finish or formula that you are looking for then you’re not going to love it.”
Some formulas are lighter than others. Miller recommends that women who want to look polished but feel like they have nothing on try Estee Lauder’s Invisible Foundation, which can be applied with fingertips.
For women who are busy and need make up that can last hours at a time without reapplication, he recommends an extended wear formula.
“The right formula to fit your life is super important,” he said.
Now that you have applied your foundation and concealer, set the look with a loose powder (applied with a full powder brush) for an airbrushed finish, and apply bronzer to contour and shape cheekbones.
For a little glow, apply an illuminating powder and top with a light pink blush on the apples of the cheeks.
To make eyes pop, apply a neutral-colored shadow on the eyelid and under the brow bone. Define the crease with a darker brown shadow and apply a taupe shadow just above the crease.
Use a brow pencil to tame fly-aways and add definition.
Next, use a soft black pencil to line the upper and outer lash line, smudging away any harsh edges. For a flirty fringe, apply lengthening mascara.
Finish off the look with a sweep of coral lipstick and add a dab of clear gloss just in the middle for the illusion of added volume.
