Hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, weight gain, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges are among the many woes of menopause. While they may not be pleasant, they make great fodder for the hysterics of “Menopause the Musical.”

The cast of “Menopause the Musical” will perform in Charlotte Oct. 18-21 at the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts. The musical has been seen in more than 450 U.S. cities and more than 300 cities worldwide.

Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, writer-producer Jeanie Linders created the show as a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived “The Change.”

The international hit show is on a 17-city fall tour, which is stopping in Charlotte Oct. 18-21 at the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts.
The 90-minute production is set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale.

A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realized that menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage.” It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal.

The all-female cast includes Gastonia native Liz Hyde (Iowa Housewife), Kathy St. George (Soap Star), Margot Moreland (Earth Mother) and Kimberly Ann Harris as the “Professional Woman.”

“The audience can expect a lot of laughs and a lot of fun,” says Harris. “We always have a blast.”

“Menopause the Musical,” which includes parodies from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, has entertained audiences in more than 450 U.S. cities, nearly 300 international cities and 15 countries. It is estimated that nearly 11 million women have attended a performance since the 2001 opening in Orlando, Fla.

Tickets for “Menopause the Musical” are on sale at www.blumenthalarts.org, by phone at (704) 372-1000 or in person at the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts box office (430 S. Tryon St.).
