Johnson C. Smith receiver Terrell Hutchinson and his Golden Bulls teammates open the 2013 season on Sept. 7 against Livingstone in the Commemorative Classic. A 10th game, at Central State (Ohio) on Nov. 9, was added to the schedule last week.

The Golden Bulls will wrap up the regular season on Nov. 9 at Central State (Ohio), giving JCSU a 10-game schedule. The date was posted on the school’s athletics website last week. A 10th date became necessary when the Commemorative Classic between JCSU and Livingstone – traditionally the season finale – was moved to Sept. 7 as the opener. That game will be played at Memorial Stadium. The Golden Bulls are unbeaten against the Blue Bears in the Commemorative at 4-0.

Other notable dates on the schedule include:

• Bowie State will be the Sept. 14 opponent for the Eddie C. McGirt Classic at JCSU’s McGirt Field.

• Davidson’s first visit to JCSU on Sept. 21. The Wildcats have won two straight in the series, which Davidson leads 2-1. The Wildcats won the last meeting 35-7 in 2011.

• Lincoln (Pa.) makes its first trip to Charlotte since the 1950s when the Lions play on Oct. 5. Lincoln won last year’s game 55-53 on its home field.

• A road game at CIAA champion Winston-Salem State on Oct. 12 opens South Division play. The Rams played for the Division II national championship last year.

• Shaw is the homecoming opponent on Oct. 26.

JCSU is coming off a 6-4 campaign in 2012, the Golden Bulls second straight winning season since 1972-73.
