Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Charlotte Affiliate, presents its 4th annual Pink Sunday event to the faith communities within its 13 county service area. Pink Sunday is an important education program to raise awareness of breast cancer risks and is especially important for local African-American and Hispanic churches.

"We will provide free information on the warning signs of breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the availability of free mammograms for those without health insurance," said Lori Vaccaro, executive director of Komen Charlotte. Talking points and scripts are also provided to assist church organizations in presenting information to their members.

In 2012, Komen's Pink Sunday event impacted 162 churches. More than 24,000 pieces of educational materials were distrubted to bring breast health awareness and education to the faith community. Vaccaro said early registration for 2013 has already exceeded last year's participation.

Churches in the following counties are invited to participate in Pink Sunday: Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York County, S.C.

Online registration can be completed at www.komencharlotte.org. The deadline to register is March 31. Call for more details.
