The Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee is partnering with United Way of Central Carolina’s Volunteer Center and other organizations to host a Community Day of Service. We need 500 volunteers for this day.  Over 150 slots are still available.

The Charlotte in 2012 Day of Service will bring volunteers together to serve their city and to get ready for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.  It will be a fun filled day with multiple volunteer opportunities around Charlotte.  Some of the volunteer projects include:

*Building the new ‘Sense and Science’ Garden at First Ward Elementary School;
*Breaking down and sorting metal components at the Habitat Metal Recycling Center
*Building a community garden with Friendship Gardens;
*Beautifying the grounds at the YWCA Park Road Campus; and
*Cleaning up the Colonel Francis Beatty Park.

The Day of Service will showcase Charlotte’s culture of volunteerism and will highlight partnerships between the Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee and service organizations throughout the city. The event is part of Mayor Anthony Foxx’s convention legacy programs.

This event is open to everyone in the Charlotte community that would like to participate, including any young Charlotteans who wish to be involved in youth volunteering.

Those interested in taking part in the Charlotte in 2012 Day of Service should visit the following link: http://dayofserviceclt2012.eventbrite.com  to sign up to volunteer.
